GOG

The GOG event was the first time the PoSF was exhibited to the public, it was really important to communicate the clothing stories shared through the workshops. The intention was to create an opportunity for people to feel part of the Parliament of Sustainable Fashion without having to attend a workshop. With democracy at the heart of the POSF, a voting station was created that would allow visitors to decide who they believed could lead the parliament. It was important to emphasise that the political actants that make up the parliament are the clothes themselves rather than their human owners. To highlight this, clothes had to ‘speak for themselves’.

Using Bare Conductive Touch Board, Arduino software and conductive thread, the clothes were connected to an audio file of the speech given advocating for that garments place in the PoS. When someone touched the garment, the corresponding speech explaining the ‘life’ of the garment and the appeal to be the leader of the PoSF, plays through the speaker. This gave the GOG visitors the opportunity to listen to all of the stories and perspectives and then decide which clothes, and therefore sustainability practices, they deemed most impactful.

PoSF serves as an inclusive platform that welcomes and honours all approaches to clothing care and sustainability. In this collaborative space, we aim to empower ourselves and eachother through our garments, questioning the idea of agency and autonomy.
